Acne Scar Removal: Is It Worth a $ 2500 Laser Treatment
Given the choice between the skin and a clear treatment of acne scars group, most sane people would go for the flawless face. But when it comes to acne scars, it can achieve the ideal look expensive.
Dermatologists across the country offer cosmetic services featuring neodymium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd: Yag) laser to treat acne scarring.
Nd: Yag laser wavelength directly damage the dermis to the basal layer of epidermis of skin and leave the less absorbent relatively unaffected. This points of injury increases dermal collagen growth and mitigates scar appearance.
Several medical studies have documented the effectiveness of Nd: Yag laser treatment for acne scarring.
For example, the study released in August 2006 issue of Dermatologic Surgery involved nine patients with severe acne scars received treatment with eight 1064-nm Nd: Yag laser.
All the patients saw improvement in acne scarring. For about eight of the patients, self-assessed level of acne scarring improvement greater than 10%.
A related investigation, published in the March 2006 edition of the same journal, examined 1320 nm Nd: Yag laser. After five treatments, patients generally rated their satisfaction level of 5.4 on a scale of 1-10.
Like Ng: Yag, Fraxel laser also reduces acne scars. Fraxel laser works by creating a microscopic wounds in the skin. This induces the production of collagen and ultimately the formation of new, less skin scars.
In a study published in the Journal of Dermatology in September 2006, the researchers treated ten patients with the Fraxel SR Laser. Although the scarring may result as a side effect of Fraxel laser treatment, the patients in this study noted improvements in their skin condition with nominal side effects.
While treatment for scar tissue laser showed promising results, their price makes them more expensive than a proper medical service. Typical costs range from $ 150 – $ 2500 per treatment depending on the type of laser used, session time and the size of the treated area.
In most documented study, patients needed 5-10 sessions before the record is marked improvement of their skin.
Does acne scar removal worth $ 2500? In short, the decision to go with laser scar removal must be made between you, your hopes, your doctor and your wallet.
